Keeping Games Fun & Friendly

Do you play online Games? Do you have any rules at home about playing them? Do you think carefully about what happens online when you are playing games?

These are all questions we thought about today in our Cybersmart lesson. We watched a video about playing games online and about the strategies the players used when something went wrong or they didn’t like what was happening. What would you do if something went wrong in a game?

We made a list:

  • block them
  • report them to the website owner
  • tell our parents
  • tell our teacher
  • take a screenshot
  • email the screenshot to our parents or our teacher
  • check the privacy settings on the game

We created a video about how we can level up our online safety. We will need to complete these next week.

Editing Images with Lunapic

Today we were talking about how to edit images online to change them. We talked about protecting our online identity by editing images of ourselves. We used Lunapic to make a collage of a selfie. We explored all the different styles, took a screenshot and inserted it onto our slides.

Real or Fake?

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we were looking at images and deciding if they were real or fake.

Then we created a fake animal ourselves by combining 2 animals together. We removed backgrounds and used the magic eraser so we only had the parts we needed. We added a background so it looked real.

Then we made an image of an animal in a place where you wouldn’t usually wouldn’t see them. Some of us used a short video and we could remove the background on this as well. Some of us used custom animation to make a still image move.

Here is Lillie-Rose’s animal…

What is Media?

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we were thinking about Media, what it is, where we see it and what we use.

Then we used Canva and created a video about the media we use. We had to search for icons or images. We added them and thought about animating them so they move and catch our eye. Some of use inserted a photo of us and turned it into a silhouette by adjusting the brightness and contrast. We added a background that fits and doesn’t take over the design.

We had to rename our project and share it into a folder so our teacher can see our work.

We will complete these next week by adding audio then downloading it and posting it on our blog.

Pepeha #2

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we carried on working on our Pepeha.
Some of us have recorded ourselves and added that in as a video within the main video.
Some of us worked on completing our text and adding images.

Most of us were able to put it on our blogs today as well.

Pepeha

We have created our Pepeha and have been practising saying them. This is part of our speech contest. This contest is soon!

Today in our Cybersmart lesson created a video of our Pepeha. To start we used the animated name we created in Canva last week and resized it into a video. This made a great introduction to our Pepeha. Then we typed in our Pepeha in a separate frame. . We added a frame and are designing it to represent us – a bit like our Visual Mihi we made earlier in the year.

Here is some of our mahi so far. We need to add a recording of us saying our Pepeha – we can use Canva to do this and our little video will be visible on the video. It will be like a video within a video.

Here is some of our mahi so far. Honor has completed his mahi! Ka pai tō mahi!

Animated Name

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we animated our names in Canva

We used a presentation and searched elements to find letters of our name so we could spell it. We also learned how to rename our project and to share it into a folder so our teachers could see our mahi as we work on it.

We uploaded a photo of ourselves and removed the background in the image and made sure our first frame was exactly how we wanted it.. Then we duplicated frame #1. On the 2nd frame we rearranged the elements and mixed them up. Then we duplicated frame 1 again and made sure it was 3rd. We added transitions to the frames and used “Match & Move” which makes the elements seem to glide over the screen.

This mahi showed how powerful duplicating is so we didn’t have to remake anything.

Here is some of our mahi.

Extraordinary Earthworms

We have read the book “Extraordinary Earthworms” in class. We found out lots about this creature. Did you know that they can eat the equivalent of 150 bananas per day?

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we played Blooket and the quiz was about Extraordinary Earthworms. We had lots of fun. We played it live together first where speed and accuracy gave us points.

Here is the result. Ka pai tō mahi Lillie-Rose!

Then we played it individually in the Tower of Doom. Mrs Torrie set the Blooket as a “Homework” task. When you play it like this you can get it to read the questions and answers to you.

You can see that Carmello was leading the way just before lunchtime.

Tangrams

This week in our Cybersmart lesson we created tangrams. We used Mathigon – an online tool.

We could click on a shape that gave us a shadow to help us. When we made the tangram we could change the colours. We took a screenshot and shared them on the class slides. You can see our mahi below.

Which one do you think would be the easiest to make? What one would be the most difficult?
